Civil War Encampment at Knott's

Over two hundred Civil War re-enactors will filled Knott's Park Pavilion area with the sights and sounds of an authentic Civil War training camp. Blue and Gray came together to bring history to life with displays of authentic artillery pieces and Calvary equipment as well as demonstrations of period cooking, infantry drills and special Living History presentations throughout the day.

Hollywood Faire-lette

On January 9, 2010, Renaissance Faire actors, performers, singers, musicians and vendors gathered in the courtyard of the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, CA, to help with promotion of the theater's "Kings and Queens" film series.

Flora and Fauna

I enjoy gardening, so taking pictures of plants and flowers seems like an extension of that pleasure in my life. Animals are a bit of a different story, but I do own (am owned by?) two cats and enjoy watching the marine life from the Huntington Beach pier, visiting Bolsa Chica Wildlife Preserve and more.

Marching Through History 2009

Marching Through History Exposition is one of the largest time-line living history events west of the Mississippi River. MTHE has over one-thousand historical interpretive specialists representing many different aspects of world history from Ancient Rome, to Elizabethan England, to Colonial America and beyond. Our timeline starts with the beginning of the civilized world and marches its way through history to the current conflicts in the universal War on Terror.

Northern California Renaissance Faire 2009

The villagers of Willingtown celebrated Bacchanal and the traditional feast of Michelmas at RPFN 2009 at Casa de Fruta in Hollister, CA. This weekend was a visual treat as garlands and masks were donned by participants and visitors alike.

HB Civil War Days 2009

Civil War Days in Huntington Beach, CA, featured live weapons demonstrations, living histories and battle reenactments. Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address to celebrate his 200th birthday. The event is organized annually by the Huntington Beach Historical Society.

Fort Tejon - FTHA Invitational 8/09

On 16 August 2009, FTHA volunteers and other invited units presented skirmishes and demonstrated the tactics used in the eastern United States during the American Civil War with troops of the Union and Confederate Armies, all authentically uniformed and equipped. There was an opportunity to meet the soldiers and civilians, tour their camps and see how they lived. Living History presentations included Manual of Arms, Artillery and Field Hospital demonstrations.

Jazz Age Picnic to Support State Parks

On Sunday, August 9th, from Noon to 4 PM, a Jazz Age Picnic Day was held at Will Rogers State Historic Park.

At this moment, it is unclear what the fate of many of our state parks will be. It is hoped this gathering might help jump-start efforts towards a "partnership" with the community to keep the park open.

Victorian Picnic to Support State Parks

In a gesture to show support for our state historic parks, on Saturday, August 8th, 2009, a Victorian Picnic Day was held at Los Encinos State Historic Park.

At this moment, it is unclear what the fate of Los Encinos will be, though if past closure lists are any indicator, it will be closed. It is hoped this gathering might help jump-start efforts towards a "partnership" with the community to keep the park open.

Fort Tejon State Historic Park

At the top of Grapevine Canyon, the adobe buildings of Fort Tejon State Historic Park guard a beautiful tree-lined meadow. Between 1854 and 1864, this U.S. Army fort protected people in the surrounding region from the social and cultural conflicts between American settlers and California Indians.

For almost ten years, Fort Tejon provided a source of employment, protection, and social activities for local residents. The foremost duties of the Dragoons stationed here were to protect and control the Indians living on the Sebastian Indian Reservation, and to deter raids by the Paiutes, Chemeheuvi, Mojave and other desert Indian groups. The Dragoons’ wide-ranging patrols covered most of central and southern California and sometimes extended as far as Utah.

Disneyland

The major attractions at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, are pretty well known. But when you start looking around, you notice that there is more to be seen and admired than Main Street, the Matterhorn, Sleeping Beauty's Castle and all the other well known sights. The attention to detail is amazing. The variety of plants, both permanent and temporary, is incredible. And there is some wildlife, although it is doubtful the park has arranged for it to be there.

This is strictly a "demonstration gallery" to showcase my efforts at one of my favorite locations.

Old Fort MacArthur Days 2009

Officially this year's event was the 23nd Anniversary of the Old Fort MacArthur Days fundraiser event. But this year also marked the 10th anniversary of the first multi-cultural event this side of the Mississippi River.

The annual fundraiser grew from an artillery show to one of the premier events in Los Angeles County. In 1999 the event had 15 groups. Last year the event had over 70 groups, with over 800 participants, representing almost every part of history.
